How does a Net Metering system work?
In an On-Grid system, the solar electricity you generate is consumed immediately by your house. If you generate more than you consume, the surplus is exported back to the TNEB grid. The new bi-directional "Net Meter" records this export. At the end of the billing cycle, TNEB subtracts your exported units from your imported units, and you only pay for the net difference. If you export more than you import, the surplus units are carried forward over to the next billing cycle.
Will my solar system work during a power cut?
A standard On-Grid solar system automatically shuts down during a grid power failure. This is a mandatory safety feature called "anti-islanding" to protect grid linemen who might be repairing the wires. If you want power during outages, you need an Hybrid System with a battery bank, which costs significantly more and does not qualify for net-metering subsidies in the same way.
How to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Subsidy?
